‘Braithwaite Hemming’ represents a two-person artistic collaboration in which authorship is shared. As such, Braithwaite Hemming can be thought of as a single artistic unit (a single author). Before September 2006 Braithwaite Hemming is believed to have designed a secular working mythology based on a series of wildlife documentaries in the hope that this would provide a meaningful framework with which to face death. Like any mythology, it changed shape as the author adjusted it to his needs. In late September 2006 Braithwaite Hemming is believed to have died. The exact nature of this death is not known. His studio and the remains of his mythology remain intact and have been preserved.

As descendants of Braithwaite Hemming and executors of his will Al Braithwaite and Henry Hemming have chosen to have no input into any speculation or enquiry about the artistic intention behind the estate of Braithwaite Hemming, beyond the basic outline given above, added to anything they have been told by third parties during the period starting with the death of Braithwaite Hemming.

Remnants of the estate will be exhibited at the forthcoming Cornice Art Fair in Venice, 6-10 June 2007.
