Synopsis

A highly original artistic record of four young artists’ year-long journey through the Middle East in 2002-03, Off Screen presents a fresh and unexpected portrait of the Middle East. Each double-page spread stands alone as an artwork in itself, and together they capture something of the modern face of the Middle East. Each tactile reflection of form and colour, layered with Persian and Arabic iconography, is interwoven with diary extracts and ephemera that combine to communicate a kinetic, visually rich, deliberately subjective record and fascinating portrait of cultural identity in the 21st century.
