PERU, INCAS, PERUVIAN ARCHAEOLOGY

In a dozen visits, John Hemming drove, walked, rode and sailed to every part of Peru, including seeing almost every ruin and travelling along almost every road and many rivers in that country.

The Conquest of the Incas (Macmillan, 1970; fully revised, Papermac, London, 1995) available from Pan Macmillan, London. Winner of the Pitman Prize (for the best first book in English), the Christopher Award (New York), Hon. Mention, Bolton Prize for Latin American History (US), and published in many editions and translations.

Machu Picchu (Newsweek Books, New York, 1981);

The New Incas (New Pyramid Press, London, 1983);

Monuments of the Incas (with photographs by Edward Ranney, New York Graphic Society, Boston, 1982; revised University of New Mexico Press, Albuquerque, 1990). This book is about Inca architecture and the most important Inca ruins.
